Hungry Posted: Tur Kitchen Coral Gables has a new neighborhood spot!
WHAT TO EXPECT
Recently opened Tur Kitchen most probably got its name for its expansive, open cooking area across the back of the restaurant. We were immediately drawn to the team of incredibly focused, detail-oriented cooks who were completely focused, creating a unique experience for each guest. This attention to detail extended all the way to the front of the house, where visitors were greeted warmly and the menu was explained in passionate detail.
Chef Nelson J. Fernandez prides himself on the execution of his dishes, which feature an uncluttered presentation and fresh ingredients. The menu has several sections: Share, Pides, Salads, Mains, Sides, and Desserts. The flavors are Mediterranean inspired with a focus on vegetarian and pescetarian dishes.
WHAT TO ORDER
Start with the Warm Carpaccio, an Italian interpretation of the classic appetizer. The thin slices of beef are topped with bite-sized, juicy chunks of eggplant, San Marzano tomato, and burrata. The salads stand out – colorful palettes of garden-fresh veggies that you won’t forget!
We loved the Organic Greens: an all-green dish of upland cress and romanesco wrapped in cucumber slices served over a tangy cilantro sauce with avocado and green peas.
For the main course, we recommend the Branzinowith Brussels sprouts, fennel pollen, and russets, with a lemon oil that brings a welcome element of acidity without overpowering the flavor of the fish.
Our favorite dessert was the Mille Feuille. A beautiful multi-layer tower of pastry topped with strawberries, berry dust, and sumac. Chef Fernandez shared a secret with us: the flavors the cream with cereal milk from Frosted Flakes every day for this dish! You’ll have to try it to believe it – we could taste it right away!
HOW TO SCORE A TABLE
We recommend making a reservation, as the restaurant has quickly become a neighborhood hot spot! Tur is currently serving lunch, brunch and dinner. For those looking for a new Happy Hour spot in Coral Gables, stop by Tur. Their happy hour menu features tartines, pides, and small bites.
